The Rangeley Lakes region has a long history of sport camps, fishing, and providing a serene getaway for wealthy vacationers. Once the demand for rustic lake vacations dropped in the 1950s, a huge piece of property was donated to the State of Maine in 1960 from paper companies. In 2009, 29 additional acres of land were donated to the park. This purchase was funded by the Land for Maine’s Future Program. Since then, several partners and supporters have ensured that the donated land continues to be accessible to the public.

Lush green forest surrounding a walking trail

During our day use visit to the park, we enjoyed a nice stroll along the hiking trails with our dog, Boone. Then, we feasted on a small picnic in the day use area overlooking Rangeley Lake. The views of Saddleback Mountain were amazing! After a quick swim, we searched for wildlife among the shoreline and then made our way into Rangeley for some shopping and treats.

Rangeley Lake State Park is the perfect getaway for families, outdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, lake lovers, happy campers, and everyone in between. Grab your loved ones and enjoy a refreshing swim, a stroll along the shoreline, a lakeside picnic, and more!
