Nostalgic Bridgton Twin Drive-In

One of my favorite summer activities is watching a movie at a drive-in. In Maine, there are seven Drive in movie theaters still operating, and The Bridgton Twin drive in is one of my favorites. There’s just something about watching a movie outside under the moonlight covered in blankets and bug spray that makes for an extra special experience.

History

The drive-in celebrated it’s 60th anniversary in 2016, which is really impressive considering the number of drive-ins in Maine has dwindled from 37 to 7. A local family, the Tevanian’s, have owned and operated the business for over 45 years. They also own Pride’s Corner Drive-in on Route 302 in Westbrook (another one of my favorites). In the 2010s, they converted from a film projector to a digital projector due to pressure from the industry and only having a limited number of movies to choose from.

Getting there

The drive-in is really easy to find, as it’s located right off Route 302 in Bridgton, between MacDonald Motors and Paris Farmers Union. The drive-in usually opens in April (weather permitting) and runs until late October/early November. Peak movie-going season is the warmer months of June, July, and August.

General Information

Tickets can be purchased online up until a few hours before the show, or in-person using cash. Showtimes and movie options are posted on Facebook regularly, as is information on concessions. They have two screens typically do double features, which means you get to see two movies for the price of one. The price is usually $22 a carload for two people, $28 a carload for 3-6 people, and $6 for any additional person past 6 people. Gates usually open around 6:00p.m. and the movies typically start around 8:30p.m. There are always plenty of parking spots, especially early on and late in the season.

Clean restrooms with running water and a cute little concession stand with well-priced food and drinks are a short walk from both screens. My personal favorites are the french fries, popcorn, and fountain drinks. Bug spray and radios are also available for rental/purchase.

Whether you’re a local, visiting, or just passing through, a Maine drive-in experience is a must-do summer activity. Pile your friends and family into your car, bring plenty of blankets and pillows (or even a picnic!) and enjoy a nostalgic night of movie watching.

Happy exploring!
